Prince of Thorns

Author: Mark Lawrence

Pages: 373

Genre: Dark Fantasy

Publishing date: August 2 2011

When he was nine, he watched as his mother and brother were killed before him. At thirteen, he led a band of bloodthirsty thugs. By fifteen, he intends to be king…

It’s time for Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath to return to the castle he turned his back on, to take what’s rightfully his. Since the day he hung pinned on the thorns of a briar patch and watched Count Renar’s men slaughter his mother and young brother, Jorg has been driven to vent his rage. Life and death are no more than a game to him–and he has nothing left to lose. But treachery awaits him in his father’s castle. Treachery and dark magic. No matter how fierce his will, can one young man conquer enemies with power beyond his imagining?

This book.. Wow. I have no words. Okay, I do have words but I don’t know how to use them to describe this book because it’s amazing, confusing, odd and insane all at the same time!

At first I found it a bit hard to get in to it because of the way it’s written. One second we’re in Jorgs thoughts, the other we’re in the present, the third we’re in the past, but after a while you get used to it and then you’re just.. Wow. I just wanted to know more, I couldn’t put it down unless I really really had to.

What I liked the most about Prince of Thorns is the way the author makes you completely disgusted and charmed by the main character, Jorg, at the same time. I didn’t know if I wanted to slap him senseless or give him a hug and a hot mug of tea!

What I didn’t like so much is the way some parts seem rushed through, I had to re read some parts because I missed important events. Another thing that bugged me was a few unexplained events in the end, but I suppose those are explained in the sequel – King of Thorns which I will hopefully acquire in the foreseeable future!

Overall I really enjoyed the book and I will give it 4/5 bookmarks!

(please comment your critique on this review, as a beginner I would love to know what I can do to improve!)

cinnanmonbuns and crocheting

Hello everyone!

I spent yesterday cleaning and reading basically, I am totally hooked on Prince of Thorns! Sadly, being a single mother means that there isn’t much time for reading and such when the kids are young! But I take whatever time I get, hee hee.

Today mum and I decided to make cinnamonbuns, so we spent the afternoon baking and eating!

There’s the result! They turned out delicious. I don’t have the recipe though, but I’ll get it for you guys tomorrow!

I’ve also made some progress on the crocheted blanket I’m making, I took a 5 month break and now I’m producing squares like a machine. I love crocheting and knitting, it’s so relaxing!

I have about 4 lenghts left to make, each lenght consists out of 11 squares and let me tell you that these squares might look quick and easy and simple but when I started I got so mad. I learned to crochet by watching youtube videos, I highly recommend you to find someone to teach you IRL instead because not being able to ask questions is so FRUSTRATING.

I also finished supernatural season 9 yesterday. If this doesn’t get a happy ending I quit! So not okay! Like seriously, what the hell!?

thursday night.

Hello everyone!

I have had a couple of exhausting days filled with boring must-do’s when all I’ve really wanted to do is lay down in bed with a mug of tea, a good book and watch Lindsay. I did however manage to do a quick workout today and my saint of a mother decided to have a sleep over with my son today, so I’ve taken a super long shower and put a hairmask in my hair and changed my sheets. Best feeling ever! Especially when you’ve just cleaned the bedroom and made everything nice and shiny.

I’ve also been blessed with a new camera (after 2 years of working with a crap phone camera I deserve one), so I will be able to put up pictures here and hopefully redo the design a little because, well this one isn’t that inviting is it?

Here is a picture of my personal piece of heaven right now by the way;

I’m super excited about this book, I bought it a while back and I started to read it and got  really really hooked, but then I lost it because someone poked around in my stuff and I found it like a week ago! I thought that it’s better to re read the whole thing than to start where I left off since I hardly remember what happened in the last chapter haha.

When I’m done with it I might do a review, until then I’ll give you the synopsis;

From being a privileged royal child, raised by a loving mother, Jorg Ancrath has become the Prince of Thornes, a charming, immortal boy leading a grim band of outlaws in a series of raids and atrocities. The world is in chaos: violence is rife, nightmares everywhere. Jorg has the ability to master the living and the dead, but there is still one thing that puts a chill in him. Returning to his father’s castle Jorg must confront horrors from his childhood and carve himself a future with all hands turned against him.”

What I remember about this book is that it was really well written and I really loved it. The author is Mark Lawrence and there are 2 more books in the serie I believe. Like I said before: I will probably put up a quick review once I’m done with it!
Did you notice my funky Slytherin bookmark by the way? It’s gorgeous, innit?

Aynywho, I have to return to my tea before it gets cold!
